Te Awamutu Hockey Club President Marty Vickers received a Life Membership Award presented at the club’s fundraiser quiz night at the Speights Ale House, Hamilton, on Monday night.
It was a surprise for Marty who has been playing hockey for Te Awamutu Sports since the mid 1990s and has been club president for the past 13 years. His involvement in the club has also included managing and coaching teams during this time, as well as extending to club representation on the Waikato Hockey Senior Division of which he was Chairman for three years, and is currently Vice. Marty has also umpired across all Waikato levels of Primary, Secondary and Club competitions for many years, and is a face familiar to most down at the Hamilton turfs.
Whilst Marty has many more years of service left in him yet he will leave big shoes to fill when he eventually does step aside. The club is extremely proud of Marty and the work he does for the greater Waikato hockey community. Congratulations Marty!
