SUPREME WINNER: Trustpower Waipa District Community Awards

Te Awamutu Rugby Sports and Recreation Club Inc. are proud recipients of the Trustpower Waipa District Community Award – Supreme Winner that was presented on May 9, 2016.

General Manager, Peter Arndell, said ultimately this award was received due to our volunteer base so a big thank you and congratulations to our codes. This is an amazing opportunity for the club to maximise our standing in the community, promote the club and the codes and to increase our funding and sponsorship.

We have had offers from a number of previous Waipa winners and the Mayor Jim Mylchreest to help in how we should increase awareness and what we need to expect at the national awards, that will be held in March 2017.

You are more than welcome to drop into the Club on Albert Park Drive to see this fantastic award. Below is the announcement from the night;

The Supreme Winner of the 2016 Trustpower Waipa District Community Awards goes to the Te Awamutu Rugby Sports and Recreation Club Inc.

It is absolutely no surprise that these guys are making a huge difference in the community when they have ten different sporting and recreational entities under their management. They cover, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Cricket, Netball, Hockey, Cycling, Soccer, Touch, Boxing and Pipe Band.

Without the valuable work of the volunteers, this club would not be able to exist. Volunteers work behind the scenes and get stuck in at the coal face, taking shape as coaches, referees, managers, board members, code committee members, ground maintenance, administration, helping with working bees, stocktakes and fundraising.

These volunteers dedicate thousands of hours a year, and the help and support across sporting codes is a testament to their tireless efforts to make the club a focal point of the community.13243977_561701057336443_1829577308720013911_o-1068x801

The impacts are phenomenal on the youth of the area and the 2015 Tuff Kid Challenge organised by the club proved to be just another success to add to the list, with three times the expected number of 5-13 year old showing up to take part.

You guys are doing an incredible job at maintaining a community hub and your commitment and passion is the recipe for such a successful and engaging aspect of the Te Awamutu community. We know that you will represent your District superbly at the 2016 National Community Awards.
